About Woodland Caribou:

Woodland Caribou (also called Forest Caribou) are a subspecies of caribou found in the boreal forests of Canada and small areas of the northern United States. They're closely related to reindeer and are the only deer species where both males and females grow antlers! Male caribou have large, impressive antlers that can span up to 4 feet, while females have smaller antlers. Woodland caribou are larger than their tundra cousins, with bulls weighing 350-700 pounds. They're characterized by their thick, brown coats, large hooves that act like snowshoes, and distinctive clicking sound their tendons make when walking. Woodland caribou are well-adapted to deep snow and cold—their hollow hair provides excellent insulation and helps them float when swimming. They migrate seasonally between summer and winter ranges, though not as far as barren-ground caribou. Woodland caribou eat lichens, especially in winter, along with grasses, sedges, and shrubs. Sadly, woodland caribou are endangered due to habitat loss from logging and development, plus increased predation. They're symbols of Canada's boreal forests and conservation challenges!

Manufactured in China. CollectA's Wildlife Collection supports awareness of endangered boreal forest species. Jack's has a long standing history of being a Blue Ribbon Breyer dealer since 1994. Ages 3+
